I’ve been a licensed cosmetologist for over twenty-two years, and still manage to learn something new everyday. I received my first cosmetology license in California, worked in San Francisco at Hubert Braun, in the Stonestown Mall, then moved on Sloat St., where I worked at the Slone Square Salon. After I married in 1993, we moved to Portland, Oregon. I attained my Oregon cosmetologist license, and began working in downtown Portland, at Alder West, on Alder & 10th. Patty, from Shear Creations, had little trouble convincing me to come work with her here in Lake Oswego in June of 2009; I liked it so much that I have happily become the new owner. Portland, Lake Oswego and West Linn are very special to me, filled with caring, creative people and I love being here.
I believe cosmetology is both an art and a science, and as an artist, I find myself using everything I’ve learned through experience and education: I’ve always been interested in art, and have a BA in art from Marylhurst University. However, there is a lot of science involved in creating newer and safer hair products, too, which I stay abreast of through ‘continuing education,’ and I enjoy letting my clients know about the latest developments, so that they can achieve the most from these hair products.
My most important and challenging goal is to create a style that best suits each individual, with consideration to each client’s desires, needs, occupation, and other special requirements: weddings, graduations and other special occasions.
I enjoy working with people and creating new styles. I’ve had some very interesting and fun work experiences over the years including, working on a movie-set, working with elders in nursing homes and fashion shows. Last Summer (2011) I stepped outside-the-box and became inspired through my daughter to create an event called Pamper for Purpose. We raised about $3,000 in three hours, just pampering people, to help the refugees in Darfur and the Congo. We will be having this event again this summer, July 1st., at Millennium Park Plaza in Lake Oswego from 3:00 to 6:00
